The Armenian Genocide
A book produced to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. The book was commisioned by the Armenian Genocide 100th Anniversary Commemoration Committee of Cyprus and coordinated by Vartkes Mahdessian. The book is the result of research in the local newspapers kept at the Public Information Office of the Republic of Cyprus. The researchers first identified that had references to the atrocities against the Armenian people all articles between 1894 and 1923. Then a selection of the 189 most important ones was made. These are all reproduced on the left hand page of the book to give a historical record of the original. On the right hand page the article is given in modern greek, either in its entirety or in summary form along with its translation in english. Accompanying the newspaper research which forms the main part of the book, is an introductory text by Dr. Emilios Solomou, a chronology of the events, a map indicating the sites and extend of the massacres, a list of countries or states that officially recognize the Genocide and an index of all articles. Also included is a selection of photographs from the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute that documents the events during that period. The book acts as a silent witness and eternal reminder of the brutalities committed during the Genocide.
